Why I am here

This blog was started to connect with and keep family and friends up to date on life in Texas as I know it. A place to share my love for this area through photography, history, and stories of this adventure Shaun and I call life.... and what an adventure it is!

Concrete, granite and light

What an exciting week it has been so far.  We ended last week with all of the flat work, sidewalks, patio, etc. concrete poured and covering a considerable amount of red dirt!  Yahoo!
The sidewalk and patio from the house to the pool house, WITH room for an outdoor fireplace on the patio
Monday started with electricians and light fixtures!  I am always so amazed when the light fixtures are hung how "finished" the house looks.  This is also the point during construction that I cry.  When they flip on those lights, it is no longer a construction site it is home.  I would hug Benjamin Franklin if he were alive.
The light fixtures in the sun room, they are hand blown beaker glass and perfect above the window seat
The painter has finished for now and will come back to do touch up after everyone else has finished.  Everything he did is beautiful.  He is as particular as I am about the details, which is great!
The Master bedroom.  The color is called peanut shell and peanut brittle, love it!

Today they delivered our tile and hardwood flooring.  AND the granite installers showed up.  Is it just me or does anyone else have trouble picking out a piece of granite from a HUGE slab sitting out in the middle of a parking lot? The whole granite process makes me a nervous wreck, from the picking out to the threat of dinging up the cabinets while installing.  I finally had to come down to the pool house and get away from there while they do the master bath.
Here is the kitchen. This was the biggest piece and the piece with the sink in it.  A whole lot of yelling, grunting and heaving went on but they got it in place without it breaking. Lord have mercy..........
The guy to the far left is the owner of the granite company he is 5'4" The guy on the right is 6'6" and spends alot of time texting.   After looking at this picture from behind I realize now why the 6'6" guy works with them.  He is the counter balance.  He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer but he is great to look at and seems to hold his end up pretty well don't you think?  **wink**
That's about it for the day.  Shaun spent his day "supervising" around the cabinetry.  I installed door knobs.  Tomorrow Shaun will start the guest bath floor tile and I will paint the shelves in the storage room and hopefully get the vinyl cove base put up in the garage.
OH one more thing!  We have heat and a/c.  They came yesterday and installed the unit.  Prefect timing since it has gotten quite chilly here the last couple of days.

Love and miss you all
Jeanne
