Why I am here

This blog was started to connect with and keep family and friends up to date on life in Texas as I know it. A place to share my love for this area through photography, history, and stories of this adventure Shaun and I call life.... and what an adventure it is!

Rain Glorious Rain!

Woohoo! We finally got some much needed rain last night.  It always amazes me how you can water and water and water your lawn and it struggles and then one good rain and everything is pretty and green again.

God is good!

The rain also helped cool it down a bit as well, another added bonus.  Last night was beautiful!  We woke up to 74 degrees this morning instead of 84 like the previous morning.  They are still forecasting 102 for our high today but the little reprieve from the heat was fabulous!

A little blue sky and a few clouds..what more could you ask for

Have an amazing day

Love y'all

Is it a sign?

Oppressive...that is how the National Weather Service describes the heat wave that East Texas and many other areas are experiencing.
We are currently experiencing our 28th day of temperatures above 100 degrees.  Ugh..  Our area has, on average, 4 to 6 days of 100+ degree temps a year. So you can only imagine the complaining going on here.

One of my favorite parts of living in the Bible belt is getting to see the numerous beautiful church's and also what they post on their church marquees.
Let me tell ya this weather has produced a couple gems!
There is one church in particular here that I anxiously await their sign messages because it always makes me grin or at the very least think.  Their last weeks message said:
"SATAN called....he wants his weather back"
Now that is just funny and should give you a good idea of just how hot it has been here!

A few others I have seen around:

Not sure he is kidding here....just saying

                                  Texas?

I love anyone with a good sense of humor. Someone who, when all around are complaining about things that they cannot control, can bring a smile to the face of all of us passing by.
It makes me wonder what fall and winter will bring this year.  Quite possibly more complaining about more weather and other things we cannot change or control....  and I hope more great church sign messages.

I assumme this is all a reminder to enjoy the weather God has given us and try to find some good in every day.  We only get to live this particular day, hour, minute and second once.  Stop complaining and live it!  I know I know! Easier said than done when you are stuck to the seat of your car in 104 dgr temps, but we should all be reminded that a little sense of humor and a lot of thankfullness goes a long way.

No complaints here.....primarily because I am thankful my A/C is on "freeze"!!!  ;-)

Love or Hate it?

I know it seems odd to get excited about a cleaning product, but lets face it there are a ton of them out there and only a few that truly work! More of them fall into the HATE category than the LOVE category.

Today I thought I would share a new product I found that I LOVE!  I have a couple good sized cultured marble vanity tops in my house.  They look pretty dull and scratched and nothing I clean them with seems to make them look clean.
I was in Lowe's yesterday and bought this product called Gel Gloss, mostly because it was the cheapest and I am tired of spending tons of money on stuff that doesn't work.
Well WAHOO! It works awesome and doesn't even smell bad. (Big bonus for us with sensitive noses)
You spray it on then smooth it all over the surface in a thin coat.  You wait for it to dry a bit until you see it become a little chalky.  Kind of like the paste wax we used to use on cars. Then you buff it off.  It looks great and is supposed to make things easier to clean up in the future.  It really did revitalize my counters just like it said it would.
It works on fiberglass, Formica and some other surfaces. BONUS!
If you try this I hope you love it to

Our weekend will consist of dinner with friends, staying out of the heat and no doubt another trip to Lowe's.  We just can't stay out of there.  Jeremy's house is coming along great can't wait to share pictures with you as he gets closer to his move in date.  So thankful that Shaun is so talented, not to mention patient, and able to be there to help with construction and management of yet another project.

Have an amazing weekend
Get out there and create a memory
I will share mine with you on Monday

Love Ya

FaceBook is the Devil!

Ok for those of you who think I have totally lost my mind or who have some unnatural attachment to Facebook, let me start by saying I UNDERSTAND!  I think Facebook is one of the primary reasons our move to Texas has been bearable. The other is my amazing neighbors, more about them later.  With FB I was able to connect and keep in touch with family and friends.  I had a connection I wouldn't have otherwise had.  That being said, I am extremely annoyed and bored with it! I am hoping this takes it's place and I am able to reach even more "non facebook" family and friends on a little more private level.
As far as the losing my mind part of the first sentence, well we all know that has been happening for years so just try and go with it, that's what I do, and Shaun pretends to not notice at all anymore!

I have discovered, (more like confirmed) over the last 2 years that I have a bit of an addictive personality. Hey! I hear you snickering out there.....  anyway Facebook, up until now, has been a huge addiction for me. I get up in the middle of the night grab a glass of water and check FB, first thing in the morning, last thing at night, on my phone, well you get the point.   I truly love knowing what's going on with the people I care about by their weather posts, baby announcements, wedding pictures etc.  What I don't/won't miss are the viruses, the people from your past who think there is still a connection there, even if there never was a connection to begin with, the public arguments, whining, moaning, and OH my all time favorites the people who can't control the garbage that comes out of their mouths.  Seriously people I ran a lumber yard for 6 years and these people could make even the worst contractor blush!

I have seen the Light! or the blog as the case may be....

So as of today at 9:24pm Central time I am declaring FaceBook as the devil!  If you haven't seen the movie Water Boy with Adam Sandler this may seem like a religious statement to you and O.K. that's fine to.  As I mentioned before just try to go with it, that's what Shaun does and it has worked for him for 31 years.

Do I miss FB?  I will let you know, but in the last 15 minutes I have done pretty good without it!  I will keep you posted :D

Love to all and blog on!

Where to begin ???

ALRIGHT! I get it I am a rotten blogger.  I started this thing about 6 months ago.  One night I looked at my posts and realized they were pretty dark and depressing. Lets face it life was pretty dark then...(or so I thought).

SOOOO I erased all of them and decided to start fresh! I am going to give you a tiny recap of some of what has happened over the last 6 months because it has and always will effect me and my family and this blog.

In March my MIL Pat was diagnosed with cancer. She endured and survived (barely) the chemo treatments, hair loss, exhaustion and mental anguish that goes with this cruel disease. I will elaborate on lessons learned in other blogs to come.  I just thank GOD she is still with us and we have such a strong family.

In May my brothers wife Stacey was diagnosed with breast cancer at 40. She has had the lumpectomy and will begin radiation treatments soon.  More updates and info to come.

On average our life is ultra boring with a few adventures thrown in to keep it interesting. I am excited to have a place to share thoughts and ideas....even if no one is reading this but me.  Weird isn't it, that I am willing to ramble on about life with no one listening. I am sure DH Shaun is thrilled my rambling is being done elsewhere... and lets face it...Facebook is the devil! (ha ha LOVE the movie Waterboy)

Thanks for visiting and remember "normal" is a state of  mind and "sarcasm" is one of my favorite tools.

Read on!  or should I say Blog on!

neglected and run down.  But as they say in Texas "I'm fixin' to fix that!"
